lest i forget or begin to take myself and the art world too seriously i wanted to mention that my teacher and great sage will be in town this weekend. my yoga teacher Rod Stryker will be at Prana Yoga Miami from Friday 26th of October until the 30th. we are indeed blessed to be able to experience his teachings. this seminar will be on the subject of the Sutras, the heart and core of yogic philosophy. one does not need to be a teacher to participate, information can be found at parayoga.com. he will also be participating in the omega conference, which will be held in Ft. Lauderdale the following week.

art basel miami

Miami is gearing up for its annual art fest, as we the locals look forward to the four day art tsunami held every year in the first few days of December. no ordinary feast for the eyes is this, an orgiastic affair befitting of this city. and what will await us this season, who will be the current hot young or old and older mega stars. ahha, that will require being here. i have to admit that i am a little cynical[i am an artist after all] but i will be d....d if i don't find it to be pretty exhilarating. the main space is the convention centre, two years ago i found a booth dedicated to the works of Giorgio Morandi, the Italian still life artist,,,,where would i have to go to see that,,,,next stop Florence, or a good selection of paintings by Milton Avery, not to mention the sheer amount of masters represented is staggering. i kvell at the odd Alice Neel, so rarely seen, the abundance of De Koonings, perhaps a Joan Mitchell here and there and then there is the new superstars, spot them if you can,,,try to buy them and they are sold,,,,before the show opened to the masses. the side venues tart up the city wonderfully, one can run from place to place,,,party to party. in a way that's what it feels like,,,,one long four day party, breakfast to dinner to late night,,,,,energy required. the local museums also do a fine job curating some great shows from their vaults, and no i don't work for the city or the infamous fair,,,,just live here in Miami,,,,so if you have thought of taking it in, you will not be disappointed,,,,well you may not get the work of art you covet,,,,but there is something for everyone,,,and you might have fun and satisfy the eye.
